Less weight, more efficiency and driving pleasure - this applies equally to vehicles with combustion engines and electric cars. So it's no wonder that lightweight construction is currently experiencing a renaissance, particularly in electrified vehicle architectures. This is because 100 kilograms less weight means around ten kilometers more range and saves 1.5 kWh of capacity in the battery.
"If you want to help e-cars succeed, you have to offer a favorable, affordable range. And lightweight construction plays an important role in this. That's why we at Volkswagen take this topic very seriously," says Ludger Lührmann, Head of Body Development at Volkswagen AG. In his keynote speech at this year's
"Automotive Industry Lightweight Construction Summit" on March 24, 2020 in Würzburg.
The Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) has also recognized the innovative power of lightweight construction. The BMWi speaks of a key technology that contributes significantly to the competitiveness of Germany as an industrial location. With its "Lightweight Construction Technology Transfer Program", the Federal Government now wants to give the topic a new boost. Around 280 million euros in public funding has been earmarked for the period 2020 to 2023. In the opening keynote speech at the Lightweight Construction Summit, Elisabeth Winkelmeier-Becker, Parliamentary State Secretary for European Policy, Economic Policy and Industrial Policy, will present the program in broad terms. In the early afternoon, Werner Loscheider, Head of the Lightweight Construction, New Materials and Resource Efficiency Division at the BMWi, will explain the funding guidelines in detail.
The exchange between speakers and participants is a central component of the event. In discussion rounds or in the interactive specialist sessions, each participant can contribute specifically to their field of activity. The "Meet & Talk" area, in which the speakers are available to answer questions after their presentation, is a very special feature.
The ninth "Automotive Industry Lightweight Construction Summit" will be accompanied by an extensive exhibition. Numerous event partners will be presenting their concepts with their exhibits. The Start-up Campus will also feature pioneering research and development projects from universities and institutions as well as from the start-up scene.
The "Automotive Industry Lightweight Summit" will take place on March 24/25, 2020 at the Vogel Convention Center, Würzburg
