In a new manual, automotive supplier KAMAX demonstrates the advantages of ultra-high-strength screws for lightweight construction and increased performance requirements in automotive engineering.
The demands placed on bolted joints in automotive production are inherently high and are becoming increasingly stringent as environmental regulations become stricter. When bolts are installed in a vehicle, they must have a high load-bearing capacity and maximum preload force, withstand local stress increases and be resistant to hydrogen-induced brittle fractures. Under the pressure of increasingly stringent environmental regulations, the focus is also shifting to ever lighter construction methods. Ultra-high-strength screws with a bainitic structure offer great potential for this.
In Europe, the automotive supplier KAMAX has introduced this technology for series application in vehicles. The increased strength of the screws increases the maximum achievable preload force without having to increase the dimensions and therefore the weight and installation space. Conversely, weight and installation space can be saved if a smaller ultra-high-strength screw also provides the required preload force.
With its KXtreme products, KAMAX has brought ultra-high-strength screws with a bainitic structure to series maturity. The company summarizes years of development work in the manual for ultra-high-strength screws. KAMAX's aim is to enable designers and materials experts to use ultra-high-strength screws for lightweight constructions and efficient connections. The book provides comprehensive information on the material and component properties of ultra-high-strength screws.
