The trade journal "kfz-betrieb" has honored Heinz-Dieter Tiemeyer (62) with the "Executive Circle Award 2022" for his life's work. Starting with three car dealerships, the award winner has led the company into the top league of Germany's largest car dealerships over the past twenty years.
"kfz-betrieb" editor-in-chief Wolfgang Michel presented the award with the words: "The Executive Circle Award for his outstanding life's work in the automotive trade will be presented in 2022 to a personality who has proven that it is possible to operate an extremely successful and expansive automotive trade and service business in 'only' twenty years despite an extremely competitive situation by rolling up one's sleeves, entrepreneurial courage, willingness to take risks, vision and straightforwardness!"
The nucleus of today's Tiemeyer car dealership group was a petrol station with an attached workshop. Father Heinz and his brother Willy ventured into self-employment in 1953. From 1958, the company operated as an official Volkwagen dealer. The second dealership contract was a long time coming: the Audi contract was not added until 1974. From then on, the dealership was a so-called V.A.G dealer.
In 1977, the father died unexpectedly. The wife of the company founder and mother of the award winner, Elvira Tiemeyer, took over the management of the family business as a lateral entrant. Her son Heinz-Dieter Tiemeyer, who was not yet of age at the time, began his apprenticeship as a car mechanic more or less at the same time. This was later followed by training as an office administrator. At the same time, the junior underwent a "learning by doing" apprenticeship.
In 2002, the award winner took over the sole management of the family business. He built new car dealerships and also took over others. By 2022, the dealership group has grown to 28 locations with five brands, has over 1,600 employees, sells almost 34,000 vehicles and generates a total turnover of around 850 million euros.
The award winner commented on the award as follows: "The automotive industry will continue to change, so our company will also continue to change. We have to adapt to the new developments and are also opening up new areas of business. It's not the big or the fast that survive, but the adapted. It was no different in the past. I'm not afraid of the future. If I had ever been afraid of the future, I wouldn't be standing here today. Thank you for the award!"
"kfz-betrieb" presented the award at the "Executive Circle", the forum for Germany's major car dealers. The Executive Circle took place for the eighth time at Steinburg Castle in Würzburg. The Executive Circle is organized by
