At the European Future Summit in Würzburg in mid-June, around 40 experts and interested parties discussed the topic "Courage to cobot - the future is near!" At the end of the event, the launch of the "Cobot Initiative Mainfranken" (CIM) was announced.
Applications with robots and cobots (collaborative robots) are particularly promising in the skilled trades and could help to alleviate the problem of young talent and the shortage of skilled workers. "In conjunction with the rapidly growing possibilities of artificial intelligence, we see great opportunities for the skilled trades and industry. Now it's time to network and exchange ideas in order to explore the possibilities in concrete terms," says Dr. Gunther Schunk, Director Public Relations at Vogel Communications Group, explaining the launch of the initiative: "The Main-Franconia economic region offers a large number of companies for a wide range of these applications."
Numerous institutions and companies want to support the CIM initiative. These include Region Mainfranken GmbH, the Chamber of Crafts, the Würzburg Schweinfurt Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the City of Würzburg's Economic Development Department, the Würzburg-Schweinfurt University of Applied Sciences and the University of Würzburg. CIM aims to promote networking and the exchange of knowledge on this topic of the future in the region. On October 24, 2023, the Vogel Communications Group will host the "Cobots4You" event at the Vogel Convention Center: a one-day robotics event for exhibitors and users, with presentations and an experience area to try out and get to know each other.
Prof. Dr. Robert Grebner, President of Würzburg Schweinfurt University of Applied Sciences: "Cobots are an important next step on the way to automating complex motion sequences. Wherever physically strenuous and monotonous work takes place, cobots will make work easier for humans by integrating them into work processes. With increasingly sophisticated artificial intelligence processes, robotics will become a double driver for the German economy and the German mechanical engineering industry: The construction of robots will develop into a lucrative sector through to robomotive ecosystems. And the use of increasingly autonomous machines will secure Germany's position as a production location. The Free State of Bavaria is building one of the most modern science centers for robotics in Schweinfurt and for artificial intelligence in Würzburg for the Würzburg-Schweinfurt University of Applied Sciences. It is therefore a matter of course for the Technical University not only to actively participate in the Cobot Initiative Mainfranken, but also to support it with all the resources at its disposal."
Klaus Walther, Head of Business, Science and Location Marketing and CEO of Würzburg AG: "We welcome the Vogel Communications Group's initiative to actively integrate robotics and AI into the day-to-day work of companies in Franconia. It is already standard in large companies, but now there is also an opportunity for the skilled trades and smaller SMEs to make greater use of this technology in order to survive on the market in the long term. All in all, this is an important topic for the future of our region, which the City of Würzburg's economic development department will actively support."
Åsa Petersson, Managing Director of Region Mainfranken GmbH: "Our leading industries are facing major changes. Changes that will shape the future of Mainfranken as a business location. The aim of Region Mainfranken GmbH is to actively and successfully shape this change. As part of our transformation offensive transform.RMF, we want to work with strong regional partners to specifically promote regional AI and automation potential, create spaces for innovation and design a roadmap that will lead us dynamically and sustainably into the future. The Cobots4you platform offers us the opportunity to bring players together and tackle the challenges of digital transformation as a team."
