Würzburg, 28.11.2006
Vogel Business Medien, Würzburg, inaugurated its new Vogel Convention Center on November 24, 2006 with an extraordinary event - a first-class concert experience consisting of three unique components: the piano virtuoso and conductor Rudolf Buchbinder, the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra and Beethoven, whose 1st and 5th concertos for piano and orchestra were on the program. And all for a good cause, as the proceeds from the sale of the 600 concert tickets and additional donations went directly to two social projects in the immediate vicinity.
Claus Wüstenhagen, CEO of Vogel Business Medien, said in his address to the guests: "We deliberately chose this setting for the official opening of our VOGEL CONVENTION CENTER for the city and region: Not an industry event, not a congress, but a cultural and socially committed event, the proceeds of which benefit Würzburg citizens, seemed to us to be the only right form for this." The charity concert was organized by Vogel Business Medien in cooperation with all Würzburg service clubs (Rotary, Lions, Zonta, Soroptimists, International Women's Club and Amicae Artis). The ticket contingent for the event was sold to club members as well as friends, customers and employees of Vogel. In the end, a considerable sum was raised, which then grew to a total of 40,000 euros thanks to sponsors and a spontaneous donation from members of the Vogel Medien Group Supervisory Board. 20,000 euros will now go to each of the lucky recipients. On the one hand, these are the Main-Post's Patenkind e.V. campaign, which has regularly benefited needy families and individuals in Würzburg in the run-up to Christmas since the post-war years. On the other hand, the "Glück im Unglück" (Happiness in Misfortune) children's fund foundation is supported, which operates a socio-educational care center for children from difficult backgrounds and their families in Zellerau, the district where Vogel Business Medien has been based since 1952, with minimal resources and immense personal commitment. On behalf of the donation recipients, David Brandstätter, Managing Director of Main-Post, paid tribute to the social commitment of the Vogel and Eckernkamp families. It is "an expression of the very, very great art of entrepreneurship."
The charity concert achieved the goal described by Dr. Kurt Eckernkamp, publisher and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Vogel Medien, in his welcoming address: "True to the philosophical "delectare et prodesse", we have combined the enjoyment of music and the festive get-together this evening with a commitment to the common good. All of us who have come together here today know this: Feeling responsibility is good, taking it is even better."
The Vogel Convention Center (VCC):
In order to realize the VCC, two former production facilities of the publishing company, Shed and Rotationshalle, were completely rebuilt and redesigned. Vogel Business Medien is thus responding to the growing importance of the event sector. The result is a conference venue equipped with state-of-the-art communication (lighting, audio and video) and air-conditioning technology. Despite modernization and contemporary design, parts have been retained that are reminiscent of the traditional publishing and industry history and ensure the characteristic aura of the VCC. The 2000 square meter conference venue, which can accommodate up to 700 people, can now be hired for events of all kinds.
