With the introduction of the AUK, the legislator has declared war on the manipulation of motorcycles. Since April 1, 2006, motorcycles have had to have their exhaust and noise emissions checked regularly as part of the general inspection. The costs for this test are borne by the motorcyclist, reports the Würzburg trade journal "kfz-betrieb" in its latest issue 18 of May 4, 2006.
The exhaust emissions test (AU) essentially corresponds to the car AU. The inspection requirement initially applies to motorized motorcycles with two-stroke or four-stroke engines and a cubic capacity of more than 50 cc and/or a maximum speed of more than 45 km/h, if the vehicles were first registered after 1 January 1989. The exhaust emissions test may be carried out by any company approved for the AUK.
The examination of noise emissions is initially a subjective noise assessment by the tester, reports "kfz-betrieb". If the inspector is not satisfied with the subjective result, he must carry out a stationary noise measurement. If the measured value exceeds the value entered in the vehicle documents, this is considered a significant defect. This noise test may only be carried out by officially recognized experts or testers as well as test engineers and is always carried out directly with the main inspection.
"kfz-betrieb" is a trade magazine published by Vogel Auto Medien, Würzburg. The most widely read trade magazine in the automotive industry celebrated its 95th anniversary in 2005 and is the official organ of the German Motor Trade (ZDK), the professional lobby for over 40,000 car dealerships and workshops.
