First compendium on Virtual Desktop Infrastructure now available as an online edition

The practical and informative booklet from "SearchDataCenter.de" introduces IT infrastructure professionals to the topic of virtualization in the desktop environment.

Augsburg, December 10, 2007

The compendium on virtualization with a focus on "Virtual Desktop Infrastructure" has already been widely distributed on the market as a print publication. Now the online edition is available as an editorial white paper on the SearchDataCenter.de website.

SearchDataCenter.de presents the new topic of "Virtual Desktop Infrastructure" comprehensively and in simple, easy-to-understand examples. Both the many visitors to the events, such as VMworld 2007, and the registered users of the website have already been able to see the quality of the content in the print publication for themselves.

Virtualization is not just a topic for experts and large data centers! Medium-sized companies in particular can benefit. That's why the articles are tailored to all use cases and company sizes. Readers will find a large number of basic articles that provide an insight into the topic. The solutions and user reports make it very easy to get started with practical applications. Experts provide a look into the future and round off the compendium on virtualization.

"Virtual Desktop Infrastructure" is the main topic with which the compendium series starts. The practical and informative booklet introduces interested readers to the topic of virtualization in the desktop environment through basic articles, user reports, product information and interviews. Registered users of SearchDataCenter.de benefit in several ways, as they receive the booklet on virtualization free of charge. The specialist articles are also available online on the SearchDataCenter.de website in the Virtualization topic channel or on the Virtualization microsite.

The second edition of the virtualization compendium has been available since the beginning of December. It highlights the important topic of "Energy efficiency and green IT". IT departments need to think about energy consumption in IT operations and the air conditioning of their systems. Energy costs can be significantly reduced through virtualization and the consolidation of hardware servers into virtual servers. In this issue of SearchDataCenter.de's compendium, readers can find out how this works, which solutions and providers are holding their own in this segment and how companies are dealing with the issue.

The compendium on virtualization for SMEs will be published at the same time. It will look at the exciting and business-critical topic of virtualization from the perspective of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). In addition to the basics and the solutions offered by manufacturers, user reports will provide an insight into the experiences and projects of selected customers. A case study, which will be published in the compendiums and on the website over the next few months, showing each individual step of a migration in a medium-sized company, starts in this issue.

Availability of the compendiums

The individual issues of the series are still available in print and can be obtained from the website. The publication date for the "Green IT" and "Mittelstand" editions was December 6, 2007. The online edition of the "Virtual Desktop Infrastructure" compendium and the specialist articles can be downloaded directly from the website. The two new issues will not be available online until January 2008.
