After a long dry spell, branded companies are on the upswing again: the sector index exceeded the 100-point mark in February and increased by seven points. Compared to the same month last year, 41 percent of brand-name companies reported higher turnover and 25 percent reported stable turnover. A good third also registered rising revenues in the new car trade. This was the result of a survey conducted by the Bank Deutsches Kraftfahrzeuggewerbe (BDK) and the weekly journal "kfz-betrieb". kfz-betrieb" reports on the results in issue 10/11, which will be published on March 6.
Despite rising incoming orders in the new car business (January: plus 11 percent), a third of authorized dealers rate the current economic situation in the sector as "poor" and only six percent as "good". The new car dealers surveyed are more positive about their own future business development: one third also expect higher sales in the coming month. Dealers who market Asian vehicles are particularly optimistic: Half expect rising revenues.
Independent service companies take a different view of their economic situation. The poor winter business has dampened the mood. For the first time in eleven months, the industry index value slipped below the 100-point mark. Only 16% of those surveyed achieved higher turnover in the past month. 43 percent recorded lower revenues than in the same period last year due to the decline in the tire business and the drop in maintenance and repair work.
