SearchSecurity.de talks to Malte Pollmann, CEO and Chief Product Manager of Utimaco, about the background and impact of the planned deal.
Security manufacturer Sophos has caused a sensation among German investors with its planned takeover of Utimaco: from the close of trading on Friday, July 25, to the following Monday, Utimaco shares rose by 82 percent. Malte Pollmann, Member of the Management Board and Chief Product Manager at Utimaco, talks about the background and consequences of the planned deal in an exclusive interview.
The security and control manufacturer Sophos intends to acquire Utimaco Safeware AG, a direct competitor in the fields of email security, data security and control as well as encryption. For a total purchase price of 217 million euros, the sale of one of the last national IT security specialists is therefore up for discussion.
While Sophos reported a takeover in its press release, Utimaco spoke of a strategic merger. SearchSecurity.de asked Malte Pollmann, Member of the Board and Chief Product Manager at Utimaco, about the takeover and its consequences for Utimaco, its successful SafeGuard product line and future direction.
