Augsburg, November 24, 2008
On November 20, the IT-BUSINESS Distri-Award 2008/2009 was presented to distributors in five categories on the occasion of the "Night of Distribution" at the Bayerischer Hof in Munich in front of 130 guests.
With the Distri-Award 2008/2009, the specialist trade magazine IT-BUSINESS selected the best distributors in Germany for the second time on the basis of an online retailer survey from July to October 2008. The following individual criteria were used to evaluate the distributors: Logistics, sales/sales support, price level/payment terms, web services, retail loyalty and technical support.
Distributors were assessed in the areas of broadliner/full-range distributor, peripheral/component distribution, specialty distribution with a significant proportion of own brands, specialty distribution and value-added distribution.
The evaluation was based on school grades from one (very good) to six (very poor). As part of the survey, the various retail formats rated how important the individual criteria within the specific distribution areas were to them. Based on this weighting, a result was produced for each distributor from the assessments of the individual criteria.
The first-placed distributor in each category received the "Platinum Distributor" award, the runner-up was honored as a "Gold Distributor" and the number three received the "Silver Distributor" award.
A total of 679 people from the channel took part in the online survey, of which 557 valid votes were counted. More than half of the survey participants came from the system house and value-added reseller sector (52.6%), followed by specialist retailers and service providers (18.4% each). The remaining votes were cast by mail order companies, ISVs and software houses as well as data center operators, ISPs and electronics retailers.
Broadliner category: The winner in the Broadline category was Actebis Peacock (overall score: 2.26), followed by Also Deutschland (overall score: 2.27) and Ingram Micro (overall score: 2.29) by a narrow margin.
Peripherals/components distributor category: In the peripherals/components distribution category, last year's winner Siewert & Kau (overall score: 2.41) once again defended its first place with the platinum award, Tragant won gold with an overall score of 2.49 and COS received the silver award with an overall score of 2.50.
Category Specialty Distributor with Own Brand: Last year's runner-up Rombus came out as the best distributor in the category Specialty Distribution with Own Brand with an overall score of 1.68, Tarox won gold with an overall score of 2.14 and Wortmann was again honored with the IT-BUSINESS Distri-Award in silver (overall score of 2.19).
Specialist Distributor category: Systeam was once again the winner in the Specialist Distribution category with an overall score of 1.71, the gold award went to Komsa (overall score: 1.80) and silver to Jet Computer (overall score: 1.97).
Value-Added Distribution category: ADN Distribution once again achieved the highest score among the VADs (overall score: 1.70), Bytec won the IT-BUSINESS Distri-Award in gold (overall score: 1.87) and DNS the award in silver (overall score: 1.92).
In addition, a further 42 distributors were recognized as "Qualified Distributors" in the five categories. They each received a certificate with a weighted final score.
The number of purchasing sources regularly used by retailers has decreased compared to the previous year. As the survey revealed in the current year, IT retailers purchase their goods from around five distributors on average. In the previous year, there were still seven distributors.
The IT-BUSINESS Distri-Award 2008/2009 was presented to distributors in five categories on November 20, 2008 on the occasion of the "Night of Distribution" - sponsored by AMD, Lenovo and Symantec - at the Bayerischer Hof in Munich in front of 130 guests.
