The windshield of a car is exposed to high levels of stress. Dust and dirt inflict many small, mostly invisible and therefore unnoticed scratches on the windshield. However, many car dealerships and workshops have criminally neglected the topic of glass repair in recent years, reports the industry journal "kfz-betrieb" in its current issue. Car dealerships and workshops have handed over the business to third-party providers almost without a fight.
The fact that the trade has increasingly neglected the automotive glass business is "mainly due to administrative hurdles. These have repeatedly led to irritation in the processing of car glass damage with insurance companies," explains Wilhelm Hülsdonk, Vice President and Federal Guild Master of the German Motor Trade. With the "Autoglasplus" system, the German Motor Trade Association (ZDK) now wants to bring the car glass business back into its own workshops.
Aggressive advertising by some repair providers has ultimately led to drivers with a stone chip visiting a workshop more quickly today, according to the Würzburg-based specialist journalists.
Most drivers would take their vehicles to a specialist garage first. The industry journal confirms that garages in the automotive trade also have the option of carrying out glass repairs free of charge for the end consumer in the event of a comprehensive claim. Furthermore, even if the windshield needs to be replaced, the vehicle is in the best hands at a specialist garage.
