The trainees at Vogel Business Media, Würzburg, handed over EUR 7,500 each to the two recipients of the donations, "Menschenskinder e.V." - an association to support mentally ill children and young people with the "climbing wall" project, and to the König-Ludwig-Haus orthopaedic clinic in Würzburg with the "Pain-free clinic for children too" project. The record proceeds from the annual city magazine "Würzburger 2008" came from advertising revenues and were supplemented by the management to an even sum.
Günter Schürger, member of the Vogel Business Media management board, emphasized the positive effects and the long tradition of the trainee magazine when handing over the donation. In addition to its didactic benefits as a unique test and practice project for the trainees, "Der Würzburger" also represents an important component of Vogel Business Media's corporate culture for Schürger: "The Vogel company has values that are already experienced and actively shaped by the trainees. As a company rooted in society and the region, we can thus fulfill our civic responsibility."
During a ceremony, the trainees reported on the creation of "Würzburger 2008", which was distributed free of charge in the region with a print run of 10,000 copies. They also thanked all the companies involved for supporting the "Würzburger 2008" with advertisements. Traditionally, two projects were also supported this year, which were selected by the trainees on the basis of special criteria: The projects must take place in the Würzburg region, support children and young people and receive no state funding.
Donors and recipients at a glance:
Der Würzburger - the city magazine of the Vogel trainees, has been entertaining readers for 23 years with a varied and interesting mix of topics. Both regional and international articles make the magazine an "all-rounder" among city magazines. With its combination of current and historical articles, "Der Würzburger" is a publication for all generations and target groups. Produced by the trainees themselves, "Der Würzburger" is not only a practical training program but also an aid project. Traditionally, the proceeds from advertising sales are donated to regional aid organizations. The next issue will be published in May 2009. Further information on the project: www.der-wuerzburger.de
Menschenskinder e.V. was founded in 1998 with the aim of helping mentally ill children and young people and supporting their families in everyday life. The association has set itself the task of sensitizing the public to the situation of the mentally ill and supporting patients financially. Child and adolescent psychiatrists, psychologists, curative and social pedagogues as well as nurses care for children and adolescents in a day clinic. The donation from the Vogel trainees made it possible to build a red and white climbing wall measuring 4 by 4.5 meters in the clinic. The aim is for children and young people to gain self-confidence, mutual trust, fighting spirit and team spirit through therapeutic climbing.
The König-Ludwig-Haus Orthopaedic Clinic is a specialist clinic consisting of inpatient treatment, outpatient polyclinic, outpatient surgery and physiotherapy. The pediatric orthopaedics department treats congenital and acquired diseases of the musculoskeletal system from birth. The premises of the pediatric ward are ideally suited to the needs and requirements of young patients. The donation from the Vogel trainees supports the "Pain-free clinic for children too" project. As children are unable to articulate themselves, particularly in infancy and early childhood, pain treatment and the necessary medication dosage have not yet been sufficiently evaluated and standardized in this area. With this project, the König-Ludwig-Haus aims to achieve a more targeted diagnosis and pain-free treatment for young patients through various measures.
