The 3rd Würzburg Automotive Summit got off to a successful start today with around 250 participants. Under the motto "The automotive industry under power", top managers from the automotive industry discussed the pros and cons of electric cars.
The first keynote speaker of the day, the world-renowned bee researcher Prof. Dr. Jürgen Tautz, made people sit up and take notice: "Bees are the secret partner of the automotive industry." As an example, Tautz highlighted the lightweight construction skills of bees, which can hold 2 kilograms of honey in a honeycomb structure with 40 grams of wax. Following the example of bees, materials based on piezo honeycombs could be used in the automotive industry. The scientist predicted that these materials would be ready for series production in the next three to five years. Reducing vehicle weight through lightweight construction is one of the basic prerequisites for the success of alternative drive systems such as electric motors in cars.
Tautz also warned us to keep an eye on climate protection through CO2 reduction: "The death of bees in recent years should give us pause for thought. If one of the most adaptable creatures on earth gets into existential difficulties, we need to think about our own future. "
