Nowadays, an insurance agent mainly looks after his customers by telephone. They receive claims notifications and insurance applications from customers. He often fills out the application forms himself to speed things up in the customer's interest. Sometimes he even signs the forms himself with the policyholder's name and sends them to the insurer.
Such a "customer-friendly" approach can have fatal consequences for the agent. This is pointed out by the "Wirtschaftsdienst Versicherungs- und Bausparkaufleute" in its current issue: The insurer terminates the agent contract with immediate effect for good cause without notice. The agent is threatened with criminal charges.
