On November 12 and 13, 2009, top-class IT decision-makers at federal and state level met at the 2nd eGovernment Summit on the Petersberg in Bonn. Under the congress motto "eGovernment 3.0 - The Strategy for Germany", Vogel Business Media's eGovernment Academy had invited an exclusive circle. In addition to presentations and discussion panels, two awards were presented: the eGovernment Leadership Award and the eGovernment Communication Award.
The awards went to people who have decisively advanced the development of eGovernment in Germany in recent years through their personal commitment and the implementation of their visions. The eGovernment Leadership Award went to the IT Commissioner of the Federal Government, State Secretary Dr. Hans Bernhard Beus. The editorial advisory board of eGovernment Computing selected the award winner and explained its decision: "Beus has succeeded in bringing together the federal, state and municipal levels of eGovernment in an outstanding manner. He played a key role in anchoring information technology in the Basic Law. His commitment to eParticipation, a topic that will be of great importance for Germany in the coming years, is remarkable."
State Secretary Hans Bernhard Beus on receiving the award: "I would like to thank the members of the eGovernment Computing editorial advisory board for the eGovernment Leadership Award. I am very pleased about this award. It confirms the work of the Federal Government Commissioner for Information Technology within the framework of the IT control structures in the federal government as well as the commitment of the federal government to implement the resolutions of the Federalism Commission II together with the federal states."
This year's eGovernment Communication Award went to Prof. Dr. Manfred Mayer. In the opinion of the editorial team, the media professional has rendered outstanding services to the development of eGovernment in Bavaria for many years. First in the Bavarian State Chancellery and now in the Bavarian Ministry of Finance in the staff unit of CIO Franz Josef Pschierer.
Manfred Mayer on the award: "I am very pleased to be surprisingly honored with one of the eGovernment Awards on the occasion of the eGovernment Summit. I see this as great recognition, which fills me with pride. The award also spurs me on to continue working with innovative ideas to ensure that data-secure, process-flow and transaction-oriented ICT support for public administration without media discontinuity quickly becomes widespread across all levels."
The congress talks focused on overcoming the economic crisis and developing an overall eGovernment strategy for the new legislative period. The aim of the series of events is to intensify the exchange of information between administration and politics, business and science in connection with eGovernment and administrative reform.
