Bike license initiative at 15

Online petition puts pressure on politicians

The "bike und business" online petition "Say yes to mopeds and motorcycles", which currently has 6,103 participants, is having an impact in politics. Two CDU members of parliament are voting in favor of two-wheeled mobility for citizens. In the view of IVM Managing Director Reiner Brendicke, who also supports the industry initiative, the motion by CDU members of parliament Dirk Fischer and Gero Storjohann is "a valuable signal in the direction of citizen-oriented mobility, which is viewed extremely positively by the motorcycle and scooter industry."

"Politicians must simplify individual mobility. We need more 50 cc scooters and mopeds as initial motorization for young two-wheeler riders. We need easier access to 125 cc light motorcycle mobility for car license holders." The motion submitted to the federal government by the CDU/CSU and FDP parliamentary groups in the Bundestag is in line with these key demands of IVM President Hermann Bohrer and Managing Director Reiner Brendicke.

Dirk Fischer (MP), transport policy spokesperson for the CDU/CSU parliamentary group, and Gero Storjohann (MP), the responsible rapporteur in the Committee on Transport, Building and Urban Development, explain: "Many drivers who have been driving a vehicle for years still have to complete a lengthy theoretical training course and test in order to obtain a motorcycle license. This costs time and money and is often unnecessary, as the candidates already know the rules of the road and apply them in practice. The CDU/CSU and FDP coalition parties are therefore calling on the federal government in a motion to adapt the current legal situation to the facts and simplify the procedure for obtaining a motorcycle license.

"bike und business" has summarized what the people, institutions and ministries involved think about the demand to lower the entry age in a video: http://www.kfz-betrieb.vogel.de/video/13768
