A current scientific statement, which was drawn up jointly with the American Heart Association (AHA) and the American College of Cardiology (ACC), only states: ASA in a low dose (75 to 162 mg/day) is an "appropriate option" for diabetics who, due to age and at least one other risk factor, have a ten-year cardiovascular risk of more than ten percent and no increased risk of bleeding. The "Medizin Report" points this out in the current July issue.



The statement is a reaction to several recent studies in which it was not possible to show a significant benefit of ASA primary prevention in diabetics. The German Diabetes Association (DDG) has already been more cautious in the past. Its guidelines do not contain a general recommendation, but do refer to the ADA recommendation.
