People with an intact family, nice colleagues and a large circle of friends live longer and healthier lives. This has been confirmed by US scientists in a meta-analysis of data from 148 studies involving a total of 308,000 people.
The probability of growing old was increased by around 50 percent in people who lived in intact social relationships. A lack of psychosocial contacts proved to be a risk factor similar to the daily consumption of around 15 cigarettes or excessive alcohol consumption and was even associated with twice the risk compared to obesity. This applied to all age groups.
The "Medizin Report" points this out in its current issue.
