Above all, the range determines whether consumers accept electric cars. A nationwide network of charging stations is "neither absolutely necessary nor sensible" in terms of a rapid market launch of electric vehicles. This was reported in the March issue of "Automobil Industrie" magazine.
Many practitioners confirm this view and see the development of the charging infrastructure as a subordinate criterion. "Charging at home overnight", according to the experience of Smiles AG, whose core business is the production and sale of electric vehicles. BMW and EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg AG come to the same conclusion. BMW has interviewed Mini E test drivers, while EnBW operates one of eight "model regions for electric mobility" in Stuttgart run by the Federal Ministry of Transport.
Nevertheless, the standardization of charging technology is in full swing and numerous companies are already positioning themselves in the lucrative growth market. Their products already appear very mature in the early market phase, as the market overview from "Automobil Industrie" shows. So the market has enough momentum even without government incentives!
