The global market for wind turbines is set to return to high single-digit growth in 2011 and reach at least the same level as 2009, announced VDMA Power Systems at the 2011 Hanover Fair, reports the trade journal "elektrotechnik" in its online special on wind power automation.
At around 1,800 megawatts (MW), the German market will also pick up slightly in 2011 compared to 1,550 MW in 2010. In 2012, growth will be heavily dependent on the expansion of offshore wind energy. The industry anticipates an increase of around ten percent.
The main markets of the global wind industry - Europe, the USA and China - are currently undergoing a major shift. The trend is moving away from the previously leading markets of Europe and the USA towards China and India, which already account for around 50 percent of the global market in 2010.
