According to the EU, German customs withdrew 11.5 million counterfeit medicines from circulation in 2009 - 30 percent more than in the previous year. According to a study by the World Health Organization (WHO), up to ten percent of all medicines are now counterfeit, even in the supposedly safe regions of Europe and the USA, as the specialist medium PharmaTEC reported in its May issue.
The safety of medicines starts with the manufacturing process. How must systems be designed so that they are not contaminated with undesirable foreign substances during the filling and packaging process? How can cleaning concepts be integrated into the systems? Examples and concepts for this will be on display at this year's Interpack, which takes place in Düsseldorf from May 12 to 18, 2011. Around 2700 exhibitors from some 60 countries are expected to attend, occupying a good 174,000 square meters of net space in all 19 halls of the exhibition grounds. Plenty of space to discover innovations and trends in the field of pharmaceutical packaging.
