The train towards e-mobility is gaining momentum - despite all the difficulties, for example with battery technology. "Anyone who does not focus on e-mobility now will soon no longer be in business," predicts the German Environment Minister in the special issue "E-Mobility Special Issue 2011" of the trade magazine "bike und business". Yet one particular category of electric vehicles is already at a more advanced stage than the public is aware of: electric two-wheelers.
Bicycles with electric assistance, known as pedelecs, were sold around 150,000 times in Germany in 2009. This e-bike boom is now being followed by an e-bike boom. This is predicted by the experts at management consultants Frost & Sullivan. Three out of four scooters sold in 2015 are expected to be electric scooters.
The change in urban mobility and transportation trends is also opening up new avenues for the market success of electric two-wheelers. Technological progress and consumer interests are fueling the trend.
"Pedelecs and e-bikes are undisputedly the trend product in the two-wheeler trade. Not only bicycle dealers, but also car and motorcycle dealers in particular should look into this topic. A boom is imminent and is capable of compensating for the decline in business with petrol-powered bikes," recognizes Stephan Maderner, Editor-in-Chief of "bike und business". In the 2011 e-mobility special issue, this topic is explained and illuminated from the ground up.
