German Trade Press and Karl Theodor Vogel Foundation award prizes for outstanding trade journalistic work
Frankfurt am Main, December 10, 2012.
The call for entries for the "Karl Theodor Vogel Prize of the German Trade Press - Trade Journalist of the Year 2013" has been launched. Together with the German Trade Press, the Karl Theodor Vogel Foundation (Würzburg) has been awarding the prize annually since 2005. The prize is awarded for outstanding specialist journalistic work in print and online media. The deadline for applications is February 1, 2013.
Journalists can submit self-written articles that were published in German in a specialist medium (Germany, Austria and Switzerland) in 2012. Articles from special interest titles, consumer magazines and books are excluded. The jury, which is made up of renowned editors-in-chief from various sectors, will select three trade journalists of the year - ranked 1 to 3. The winners will be honored on the Evening of Communication at the Congress of the German Trade Press on June 5, 2013 in Essen. With a total of 15,000 euros, the award is one of the most highly endowed specialist journalism prizes in the German-speaking world.
"Print is moving away from being a news disseminator and more towards analysis, opinion and commentary, offering background information and context and therefore orientation and decision-making support. This increases the demands on trade journalism, which will become even more demanding overall," says Stefan Rühling, spokesperson for the German trade press and Chairman of the Karl Theodor Vogel Foundation. "With the Karl Theodor Vogel Award - Trade Journalist of the Year of the German Trade Press, we want to promote exactly that: We want linguistically excellent trade journalism that is credibly researched, with the ability to present complex issues in an understandable and entertaining way. I am sure that reading specialist media will become even more interesting and enjoyable in the future."
Information on the competition can be downloaded from the websites of the German Trade Press(www.deutsche-fachpresse.de) and the Karl Theodor Vogel Foundation (www.karl-theodor-vogel-preis.de) and can also be requested from the Frankfurt office of the German Trade Press (Martina Seiring, seiring@deutsche-fachpresse.de).
