For the third time after 2003 and 2007, "Automobil Industrie" is publishing a 76-page special in which the 20 highest-volume OEM platforms on the market are presented and illustrated. The special edition is rounded off by a poster presentation of the "Brands and interrelationships of the OEMs".
Platform strategies are nothing new. However, the topic first came to the attention of the wider public with the Volkswagen PQ34 platform. Even today, it is the VW Group that is opening a new chapter with its modular vehicle and production kits.
Guest author IHS analyst Christoph Stürmer shows that the perfection of platform strategies can also be viewed critically. He deals with the question: Are innovations ultimately being hindered?
What is definitely not being hindered is creative freedom. The special issue proves once again that the diversity of variants and stylistic differentiation have reached new heights - despite the standardization under the sheet metal.
