What is really behind Zalando - a retailer or a logistics company? The editorial team of MM Logistik asked itself this question on the occasion of the opening of the largest logistics center for an e-commerce company in Europe. The answer: the Berlin-based company is a retailer, logistics provider, technology company and fashion company.
In the warehouse, the young entrepreneurs rely on traditional solutions, but when it comes to returns, they use modern technology and software on smartphones - with consequences for the retail trade. "Despite all the assurances, the new logistics and technology offensive is creating a huge problem for bricks-and-mortar retailers. Zalando, for example, is using apps to create its own stationary network in the pedestrian zones of Germany," explains Robert Weber, editor of MM Logistik.
