The number of LPG vehicles in Germany continues to increase. According to the Federal Motor Transport Authority, there were just under 500,000 cars on the roads at the beginning of 2013. This makes LPG vehicles by far the largest group of passenger cars with alternative drive systems. The majority of these vehicles were retrofitted with an LPG system at a garage. A recent ADAC survey shows that most LPG drivers are satisfied with the alternative drive system - more than 88 percent would buy an LPG car again.
However, many drivers shy away from retrofitting LPG: on the one hand, because they are unable to assess the risks of such a measure and, on the other, because they have difficulty distinguishing between a reputable and a dubious LPG workshop.
In its current special issue 16 on alternative drive systems, the trade journal "kfz-betrieb" therefore describes in detail the measures that car dealerships can take to present themselves as good converters - and the signs by which customers can recognize a reputable workshop. For example, reputable retrofitters can prove that their employees have undergone further education and training by means of certificates. Comprehensive advice and a feasibility check with an amortization calculation are also important indicators of a good conversion workshop.
The special issue "Alternative drives" also focuses on natural gas, LPG and electromobility, market developments, retrofitting, certification and workshop practice.
