In the future, industrial usability will have enormous significance for the operation of machines and systems. Increasing complexity, an increase in information and variants, multi-machine operation, the use of temporary workers, a shortage of skilled workers and demographic change are the technological, organizational and human drivers for industrial usability. The 3rd Industrial Usability Day, which will take place on May 6, 2014 at the Vogel Convention Center in Würzburg, is dedicated to these topics.
In two parallel sessions, the symposium will promote developer know-how in order to translate customer requirements into user interface specifications and impart knowledge of the methods, procedures and techniques of usability engineering. On the other hand, the management of machine manufacturers will be shown how the high usability of their machines can increase customer loyalty, enhance the brand image and reduce reworking and support costs through the ergonomic development of human-machine interfaces that are adapted to the characteristics and abilities of the user.
The keynote speaker is Franz Schneider from Homag Holzbearbeitungssysteme. His topic: "Successful through new operating concepts - from the perspective of a machine manufacturer". Other key topics include gamification, usability in Industry 4.0, measuring success in the UX environment and 3D user interfaces - hype or hope.
