With the "Hosting & Service Provider Summit 2014", the leading representatives of the market gathered for the third time in Frankfurt am Main at the Villa Kennedy on May 8 and 9. With around 170 visitors and 21 event partners, the summit was very popular and has established itself as an important industry event for managing directors, board members and division heads of leading hosting and service providers.
In addition to the reference reports from the field, the keynote speeches and the expert-led discussion panels, special highlights also included the first-ever round tables and discussion forums. These gave guests the opportunity to discuss trends such as "Cloud made in Germany" from their own perspectives in small groups.
In his opening keynote, Harald Summa, Managing Director of the eco Association, spoke about "The Internet after the NSA scandal - an attempt to define the situation". Dr. Carlo Velten, Senior Analyst & Managing Director at Crisp Research, followed up with his presentation "From Webhosting to Cloud Service Excellence - Strategic Options and Growth Opportunities for Hosting Companies in Europe". Dr. Sebastian Brandis closed the first day with the question "The cloud and the data center - Is Facility as a Service (FaaS) the future foundation of the cloud?".
The second day of the congress began with the discussion panels "Channel" by Michael Hase, editor of IT-BUSINESS, in which he put current business models to the test, as well as the panel "Leadership" by Dr. Christian Böing, Managing Director of Strato AG, who analyzed successful management styles in the hosting and service provider environment with his panelists and the participants.
The guests had numerous opportunities for discussion, including in the "Future" panel, which was chaired by Daniel Hagemeier, Host Europe Group, and focused on Cloud 2020 and the opportunities and risks for hosters, as well as in the "Trends & Strategies" panel by Gerd J. Simon, which examined the growth areas in the hosting and service provider market.
After the keynotes "The BREKO fiber optic offensive - broadband expansion in Germany - status quo and next steps!" by Dr. Stephan Albers, BREKO, "XaaS 4.0 - curse or blessing?" by Dr. Bela Waldhauser, Telehouse Germany, and the keynote speech by Gerhard Sundt, member of the supervisory board of several companies, with his "Focus on Venture Capital", in which he described the rapid changes in the hosting market, the summit concluded with the third HOSTING & SERVICE PROVIDER AWARDS ceremony. The jury selected cloudControl GmbH with its "cloudControl White Label PaaS" in the Platform Services category, Link11 GmbH for its "OEM DDos Protection for ISPs" in the Infrastructure Services category and NetTask GmbH for its "Hosted Lync - Enterprise Voice" in the Application Services category as the winners.
