People with physical disabilities need exclusive advice, specialized business partners and car manufacturers or importers who are committed to this area. Only Mercedes-Benz, Opel and Volkswagen currently offer new cars with special equipment for people with limited mobility ex works. Other car manufacturers work with specialized conversion companies. Only a few car dealerships in Germany have so far ventured into this area. According to the Federal Statistical Office, there are around 7.3 million disabled people living in Germany, 65% of whom are physically disabled. Even if not all of them are interested in a vehicle suitable for the disabled, this is still an important target group. The trade journal "kfz-betrieb" asked car dealerships how they deal with the issue of mobility for the disabled: Which competent partners for conversions can be considered, where can the customer expect financial assistance, what knowledge/qualities should the employees entrusted with this task have? Answers to these and other questions can be found in issue 31, which will be published on 01.08.2014.
"Every customer with a disability has their own individual impairment, which the conversion engineer must take into account. For the sales staff and service advisors in the dealership, this means always offering individual advice and a special service," says "kfz-betrieb" editor-in-chief Wolfgang Michel: "The handicap target group not only requires sensitive people, but also clever minds. If a dealership has both, its commitment to disabled customers pays off in several ways: Firstly, in the gratitude of the people concerned for the automotive freedom they have gained. On the other hand, in the form of turnover and profit for the dealership."
