According to studies, an alarming number of vehicles drive with incorrect tire pressure. Around 85 percent of "tire blowouts" can be attributed to this. However, the durability of the tire as well as increased fuel consumption and increased CO2 emissions of the vehicle also result from under-inflated tires.
According to EU regulations, vehicles in category M1 (passenger cars and motorhomes) have therefore only been allowed to be registered with tire pressure monitoring systems since 1 November 2014. The requirements for the measuring accuracy of the systems are very precisely defined and present vehicle service companies with new challenges. They will have to redefine their service processes as well as the time and costs involved in the classic tire service. They also have to adapt the inspection technology to be used, as well as tools and the stocking of the necessary spare parts, to the new field of activity.
Andreas Zühlke's book "Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems", published in January 2015, offers assistance in this regard. Born in 1966, the master car mechanic and electrician worked for many years as a technical trainer for automotive master schools and as head of technical training in the automotive sector. As the owner of an independent vehicle service company, he has followed the development of tire pressure monitoring systems not only in theory but also in practice. He is now making his extensive knowledge in the field of testing systems available to employees of vehicle service companies in book form. The vehicle specialist gains an initial insight into the technology of tire pressure monitoring systems and the resulting requirements in day-to-day workshop operations. In addition, practical work steps are presented in a comprehensible form and described in detail. An indispensable introductory and overview work that no workshop should be without.
