The reputation of the diesel engine has suffered massively in recent months. Politicians are currently struggling for stricter emissions tests - knowing full well that a complete abandonment of the diesel engine is utopian, at least in the short term. At the same time, German OEMs are emphasizing how important diesel is for achieving the European CO2 targets. The President of the German Association of the Automotive Industry, Matthias Wissmann, declared at the Detroit Motor Show that diesel could make its contribution to climate protection and set the direction: "We are sticking with diesel." But what role can diesel play in the future? What are the alternatives? The trade journal "Automobil Industrie" deals with these and other questions in its current issue and spoke to experts from politics and business.
"I think it is critical that politicians - especially in Europe, not in America - are damaging the diesel issue despite the existing solutions and systematically unsettling consumers," says Prof. Peter Gutzmer, Chief Technology Officer and Deputy CEO of Schaeffler AG. In the interview, he talks about the future of the combustion engine - especially the diesel - as well as alternative drive concepts and the challenges of automated driving.
The current issue of the specialist magazine "Automobil Industrie" takes a look at the diesel debate and analyzes the consequences of the emissions scandal. You can order a free press copy of the February issue with the cover story "Diesel under pressure" from: pressestelle@vogel.de
