In the small car segment, the residual value of used cars with an age of one and a half years and a mileage of 45,000 kilometers is on average 54 percent of the purchase price. The models with the lowest loss in value include the BMW Mini II, Audi A1 and VW Polo V. The latter is the most popular used small car and is just under two percentage points above the average residual value.
However, the BMW Mini II tops the list with a residual value of 63 percent after 36 months. The small car of British origin has just under 10 percent more residual value than the average. The Seat Ibiza, Ford Fiesta and Opel Corsa, among others, rank at the bottom of the list.
The only small car among the ten models with an increase in sales is the Seat Ibiza. "This may be due to the fact that it is an affordable alternative for many drivers. The below-average residual value is 50.5 percent," explains Silvia Lulei, Editor-in-Chief of "Gebrauchtwagen Praxis".
In the "Segments under the magnifying glass" section of each issue, the specialist medium "Gebrauchtwagen Praxis" analyzes the residual values of a selected vehicle class. In issue 3/2016, the forecast looks at small cars.
