An end to the diesel crisis?

Trade medium "kfz-betrieb": Diesel discussion unsettles consumers // 4 reasons for a comeback

The discussion about diesel is unsettling many consumers, and this is also reflected in the sales figures: The trade medium "kfz-betrieb", together with the Bank Deutsches Kraftfahrzeuggewerbe, has determined in the industry index survey (BIX) that only 33 percent of car dealerships have not noticed a drop in sales of diesel vehicles. For 42 percent of those surveyed, sales have fallen by up to 20 percent. A further 11 percent of businesses reported declines of 20 to 40 percent, and 13 percent even saw demand plummet by more than 40 percent (see "Diesel" chart).

Another trend revealed by the BIX is even more dangerous: 48% of the car dealers surveyed reported that customers are postponing new purchases. This is also reflected in the new registration figures, which were down year-on-year in September.

There are good reasons to believe that the diesel crisis will pass and that this economical drive will continue to hold its own in the passenger car market in the future. For example, the new exhaust gas guidelines for clean engines, which provide for emissions to be measured on the road and set limits for pollutant emissions under real driving conditions.
