Under the patronage of Bavarian Health Minister Melanie Huml, experts, doctors and researchers will provide information on the many facets of the disease in numerous lectures. Speakers include Benedictine priest Dr. Anselm Grün, Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Schröder and Würzburg urologist Dr. Frank Schiefelbein. Würzburg's Lord Mayor Christian Schuchardt, Würzburg's social affairs officer Dr. Hülya Düber and the FDP's health policy spokesman in the German Bundestag, Prof. Dr. Andrew Ullmann, will also be taking part in the information day, underlining the importance of the event. Bavarian Cancer Aid, health insurance companies and service providers from the healthcare sector will be represented with information stands. The technical highlight will be regular live demonstrations with a urological surgical robot. The event is open to all interested parties and is free of charge.
Big Prostate Cancer Info Day
2. February 2019
10:00 to 16:00
Vogel Convention Center, Max-Planck-Str. 7/9 in Würzburg
Admission free
The range of topics extends far beyond prostate cancer:
- Prevention and diagnosis of prostate cancer: "a disease with many faces"
- several specialist lectures on therapy options in parallel
- Keynote speech by Dr. Anselm Grün followed by a discussion, moderated by Main-Post editor-in-chief Michael Reinhard
- Living with prostate cancer and the importance of sport and nutrition in cancer
- the role of artificial intelligence in the medicine of the future
The program thus appeals to a wide range of interested parties and not just affected men. The aim is also to inform women in particular and to encourage men over the age of 45, who have been known to "shy away from screening".
"Early detection can save lives. This also applies to prostate cancer in particular. With our range of information, we want to encourage men to take their health into their own hands and go for screening. We also know from our own experience how important it is for cancer patients and their relatives to have the best possible information on all aspects from diagnosis and treatment to aftercare and other issues," explains Dr. Knut Müller from the organizer Prostata Hilfe e.V., an initiative founded in Würzburg two years ago. For many people, however, the topic of the prostate is still a taboo. The aim of the Prostate Cancer Info Day is to deliberately create transparency and reduce reservations. Müller: "We want to give all interested parties the opportunity to experience expert presentations on all relevant topics and provide a framework for discussion. We are delighted to have top-class speakers and are convinced that the VCC provided by the Vogel Foundation is the ideal venue. You are cordially invited."
