More than 60 events have already been announced more than two months in advance. These include high-caliber speakers such as Sabine Leutheusser-Schnarrenberger, former Federal Minister of Justice, on the topic of "Digital Forgetting". The regional economy supports this initiative enormously, with around 20 sponsors and supporters, including the exclusive sponsor s.Oliver. Numerous new organizers have also already registered, who are getting involved for the first time with one or even several events.
The organizer is Würzburg AG. Numerous networks and sponsors support the campaign week, which is organized on a decentralized basis. The kick-off event will take place on Monday, April 1, 2019, at the Vogel Convention Center. "This idea immediately caught fire in Würzburg and mobilized a large number of players in a very short time," says Klaus Walther, CEO of Würzburg AG and responsible for business development at the City of Würzburg: "Now we are building on this and giving even more players the chance to get involved."
The first edition of this "digital festival" took place in Würzburg in March 2018. A surprisingly large number of companies and institutions used this platform for digital topics and over 85 events were attended by a very broad audience. In 2019, the week-long program will once again offer numerous different events: From hackathons to meetups and a DevCamp to workshops, fishbowls and Instawalks, everything is represented in formats that are common in the digital scene today. The first companies, institutions and universities have already announced that they will once again be presenting themselves and their digital expertise in IT, the internet, social media, web design and media. Almost all events are free of charge.
"After we were able to present ourselves as a veritable IT location with a very lively start-up scene at the 1st Wue Web Week, I am sure that we will be able to make even more potential visible in the second edition!", comments co-initiator Dr. Gunther Schunk, Chief Communication Officer of the Vogel Communications Group and Deputy Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Würzburg AG, on the initiative.
"We are delighted that Wuerzburg Web Week also receives a great deal of support from the regional community. There are many volunteers, be it to distribute flyers, make contacts or develop an app with the program overview in their free time. Keyword Open Data: "You can see that the Wuerzburg Web Week is also serious about its own cause by the fact that it is making the programme data freely available in machine-readable form so that it can now be used by everyone free of charge," says co-initiator and main organizer Ute Mündlein happily.
