Many car salespeople do not know enough about run-flat tires or are not even aware that their company stocks these products. This is an important topic: safety for drivers and good sales for car dealerships. This was the result of an expert meeting held by the industry magazine "kfz-betrieb" on the subject of tires.
Even watching the latest BMW TV commercial hurts: a jogger steps into a huge, rusty nail that pierces his foot completely. But unimpressed, he continues his forest run. This image, which sends shivers down the spine of the viewer, is a very apt description of what a run-flat tire can do. Even with a complete loss of pressure, the driver can still cover a certain distance and drive to the nearest garage, for example, because the reinforced sidewalls of the tire support the vehicle. This saves the driver from having to stop at a dangerous place such as the hard shoulder of the highway to change the tire in the event of a puncture. In addition, four spare tires are on board, so to speak.
Until now, the safety tire has only been standard equipment on many BMW models. No other car manufacturer markets this tire technology in such a convincing way. In addition to the Munich-based car manufacturer, Mercedes-Benz, Opel, Ford, Audi and Volkswagen also offer run-flats. However, despite their advantages, they are just one item among many on the list of extras. This is why customers who want the latest and safest tire technology for their vehicle should bring up the subject of run-flat, run-flat or puncture-proof tires with their dealer of their own accord. A list of vehicles that can be ordered with optional run-flat tires can be found at www.kfzbetrieb.de.
"kfz-betrieb" is a trade magazine published by Vogel Auto Medien, Würzburg.
