There were two reasons to celebrate: Dr. Kurt Eckernkamp, publisher and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Vogel Business Media, turned 75 and his "Vogel Foundation" turned 10. A festive event was therefore held on February 25, 2010 with over 450 guests and employees at the Vogel Convention Center in Würzburg. The highlight of the event was the donation of EUR 375,000, which the jubilarian used to launch the five-year funding project "Early diagnosis in dementia research" at the University Hospital of Würzburg. In addition, the sum of EUR 25,000 went towards setting up the HALMA e.V. (Help for the Elderly) interdisciplinary advice center in Würzburg.
The event offered further surprises: Dr. Günther Beckstein, former Bavarian Minister President, gave a speech on "The responsibility of the entrepreneur" and paid tribute to Eckernkamp's commitment. A commemorative publication was also presented, outlining the entrepreneurial activities of the publisher and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Vogel Business Media from 1970 to 2010 and illustrated with many historical pictures.
Dr. Kurt Eckernkamp: "My 75th birthday is marked by the idea of 'celebrating and promoting'. For me, promoting is both a privilege and an obligation for my social commitment in our civic society."
In 2000, Dr. Eckernkamp and his wife Nina Eckernkamp-Vogel founded the Vogel Foundation, which focuses on promoting the four main areas of education, science, medicine and culture. "I think a founder should inspire! That's a good understanding of civic engagement," emphasizes Dr. Eckernkamp in an interview on the subject of corporate social responsibility.
